Man Camp: 4-day Wilderness Retreat

Thursday, February 17, 2022

I get a call from a friend I haven't seen or talked to in a few years. We catch-up for a bit on what we've been up to. Then, he tells me he has an opportunity to create a men's retreat on a lavender farm on the east coast.

He wants to bounce some ideas off of me, so we start spinning the yarn back and forth. Over the next few days, the vision becomes clearer. He's reached out to a few other mutual friends and suddenly, we have a team. We schedule weekly conference calls.

Decades of experience spanning wilderness therapy, men's workshops, wilderness workshops, life coaching, end-of-life coaching, therapeutic models, and more, are poured into an expanding bucket of ideas. We quickly find that we have more ideas than we have time for and begin to whittle them down to what we feel will be the most impactful and the most cohesive.

We set out to answer one question:
How can a man embody clarity, balance, and true power in this increasingly obscure and chaotic world?

We settle on a 4-day schedule, each day building on the last, with a mix of large group, small group, and solo experiences in the wilderness. Each experience weaves a larger web towards one goal: empowering the sacred masculine for 20 participants. The best part? This incredible journey will be set on a lavender farm and bamboo grove in western Maryland. What's not to love?

Man Camp is our chosen title.

A wilderness experience for men to come together and unlock the latent power within them, to unload the burdens they shoulder in silence, to collectively agree on what it means to be a man in the world yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Man Camp is built around 4 core values, delivered the morning of each day. We have the same clothes and gear to eliminate material comparison; instead, competing for the greatest degree of trust. We form lifelong bonds. We envision the future that we want: for ourselves, for mankind, for the world. We come back to our ancestral roots: nature. We hold gather around our most primordial ally and protector: fire. We create an intentional space, a container to lift us to our greatest strengths and supports us in our greatest weakness.

Man Camp is a place for men to be men. Let us be the boys we were. Let us be the men we are. Let us be the men we've always aspired to be. Let us imagine the pinnacle of manhood, of masculinity, and take action to bring it to fruition.

Below is more information about the retreat. There are 3 sessions available this summer. Each session is 4 days long. The retreat is led by 4 instructors. They will be hosted on Soleado Lavender Farm in Maryland.

What it Looks Like:

4 full days of camping on-site, overnight. Participants will receive a list of specific and necessary gear to acquire. All the necessary “hard skills” and “soft skills” will be taught and abundant opportunities will be made to practice in large group, small group, and solo with guidance and independently. Each day is intentionally structured with breaks. Activities are focused on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual growth. Each activity is “challenge by choice.” Group meals are cooked over campfire by participants. Food and cooking equipment will be provided.
